USGD Library #2

Hello World: A life in Ham Radio is a compilation of Jerry Powell’s QSL card collection (postcards that ham radio operators exchange after they make contact on the air for the first time). Powell’s collection, was found in a flea market by Danny Gregory who then decided to publish them in a book.
The book is beautifully design by Paul Sahre, who also co-authored, and contains and wonderful variety of illustration and typography present in the QSL cards. Next are a few spreads from the book to share with all of you. Also, we highly recommend taking a look at Paul Sahre’s work if you haven’t already: www.paulsahre.com

Ed Fella “Im History”

Opening this Friday at 7pm!

Description:
Ed Fella is an internationally acclaimed graphic designer and typographer – a recipient of the AIGA medal and the Chrysler Design Award — whose insistently personal art practice has influenced generations of designers. “I’m History,” at the Pasadena City College Art Gallery, will feature original drawings, photos, sketchbooks and printed posters by Fella. In addition to works that have cemented his reputation as an iconoclastic pioneer of postmodern design, the exhibition will also include a substantial body of recent work—from Fella’s “Counterfactual History” project—that has never before been published or exhibited.
